Valor Mortis is a first-person action soulslike developed by One More Level, the creators of Ghostrunner. Gameplay

Valor Mortis approaches the soulslike formula from a first-person perspective. Combat revolves around learning enemy attacks and responding with well-timed parries, dashes, weapon strikes, and finishers. William can also channel the corrupting power within him to strengthen attacks and unlock supernatural abilities, giving players additional ways to deal with increasingly dangerous enemies.

Exploration is another important part of the experience. New movement abilities help players navigate the war-torn environment, evade threats, and reach hidden areas. Secrets scattered throughout the battlefield can provide useful discoveries, encouraging players to examine the world beyond the most direct route forward.

Story

You play as William, a soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée who died in battle and has mysteriously risen from the grave. The Europe he returns to has been transformed by a strange plague, and the same corrupting force responsible for the devastation now flows through his body.

As William travels through this distorted version of history, he encounters plague-ridden creatures and the remnants of Napoleon's forces while searching for answers about his resurrection. Historical realities gradually become intertwined with supernatural horror as he uncovers a conspiracy threatening far more than the battlefield around him.

Valor Mortis presents a dark interpretation of Napoleonic-era Europe shaped by endless warfare, disease, and supernatural corruption. Battlefields, ruined settlements, military architecture, and period-inspired equipment are contrasted with grotesque creatures and unnatural phenomena. The first-person perspective keeps both combat and exploration close to the action, reinforcing the game's oppressive and unsettling atmosphere.
